Depending on how you want to use your land, specially if you want to grant other people rights as for example allow them:
- Building
- Set Landmarks
- Set Home
- Execute Scripts
to name a few amongst others, it might be a good idea to think about a group for your land.
A group allows you to create various roles, which can contain different rights within the group. Please note, that everyone basically gets the rights of the Everyone role.
You can use a group where you are the only owner in (or having other friends being owner, trusting them completely), or simply create a new group for your landholding. Creating a new group costs L$ 100, and makes you automatically the owner of this group. Please don’t forget to invite at least one friend into this group too, as groups without at least two members gets deleted by SL automatically within 48 hours.
Once created, you should create the rights which you want to give everyone in this group, by editing the everyone role. If you want to equip some members with advanced rights, simply create another role and add there the additional rights (the Everyone role rights apply to everyone, so you dont need to apply those rights for the new role again).
Set Land to the group, or deed land to the group?
By setting land to a group, automatically most of the given rights apply to your land, like building etc. For some rights its necessary to deed the land to the group, like for example to allow people to edit the media settings or set their home on the land.
Warning about deeding
Its nothing wrong with deeding, but before you do, you should be aware of the risks it can bring, if you have role permissions set wrong. If you have more than one group owner in the group, or other members with the given permissions, they will be able to set the land for sale (even to themselves) and take the land into their ownership. Please note, that in such a case, we’re unfortunately unable to help you, as such purchases are in legal terms legal sales and we cannot mediate in such disputes. So please ensure before you deed land to a group, that only you and people which you trust 100% have the permission to sell the land.
If you want to take your land back into your ownership, simply set it for sale to your own name (for L$ 0) and buy it back from the group.
